Prerequisites
FortiClient VPN requires DUO two-factor authentication. Please refer to this article to setup DUO.
VPN Configuration Access
As of August 1, 2026, VPN configuration files and pre-shared keys (PSKs) are no longer distributed directly to users.
To receive the required IPSec VPN configuration, users must contact the Help Desk and schedule a BeyondTrust remote support session. During the session, Help Desk staff will securely configure the required VPN settings on the user's device.
This process is required by University security policy to help protect sensitive VPN configuration information and prevent pre-shared keys or configuration files from being distributed through unsecured methods such as email, chat, or file sharing.
Users may also visit the Shaw Hall Help Desk during normal business hours for in-person assistance.
What You Need Before Contacting the Help Desk
- DUO two-factor authentication must already be configured.
- The device you intend to use for VPN access must be available during the BeyondTrust session.
- FortiClient should be installed before the appointment, unless otherwise instructed by Help Desk staff.
Once the required configuration has been applied, Help Desk staff can assist with verifying that the VPN connection is working properly.
