How to use Canvas Report

Tags hub

Introduction

The Canvas Report is a feature that provides a comprehensive overview of a student's activity and performance within a specific course. This report is accessible to users with an advisor status and a user level of 3 or higher. It can be found under each course listing on a student's full profile.

Projected Term and Cumulative GPA: Automatically calculates the student's term and cumulative GPA based on current Canvas grades.

Note: The projected GPA is based solely on currently available Canvas scores. Unpublished grades and assignments are not included in the calculation. Calculations assume that the Canvas assignment gradebook is set up correctly. The system does not account for override scores or any manual adjustments made outside of the standard Canvas gradebook settings.

Data Loading and Import

We begin loading Canvas data every early morning and import the data into the system daily in the morning.

  • Checking Attendance (when an instructor records the attendance and it is a part of the student's grades)

    • Click "View Assignment Details": Within the Canvas Report, click on the "View Assignment Details" button to see a breakdown of the student's grades.

    • Identify Attendance-Related Assignments:

      • Built-in Roll Call: Look for an assignment titled "Roll Call Attendance". The score for this assignment usually represents the percentage of classes attended.

      • Other Attendance Assignments: Check for any other assignments that might be related to attendance. These could have names like "Attendance", "Participation",  class date, or something similar. The scoring for these assignments might vary, so check the assignment details for more information.

    • Interpret the Score:

      • Roll Call Attendance: A score lower than 100 indicates missed classes.

      • Other Attendance Assignments: The meaning of the score will depend on how the instructor set up the assignment.

      • Note: If you cannot find any assignments related to attendance in the Canvas Report, it's likely that the instructor is not using Canvas to track attendance for that course. In that case, you might need to contact the instructor directly to inquire about the student's attendance.

Remember: The Canvas Report is a valuable tool for understanding student engagement and performance. Use it to identify areas where students may need additional support or recognize those excelling.
