How to map a network drive

Summary

For some types of data which does not, or cannot be stored on the cloud, on-campus servers provide a secure location for storage. These servers could be the sdrive, udrive and fitfiles to name a few.

This article outlines how to map a network drive in most cases and for most computers.  For special use-cases, please contact Tech Support.

Windows 10 or 11 

1. Open File Explorer

2a. Windows 10 - Click This PC on the left side of the window, then right-click Map network drive... 

2b. Windows 11 - Click This PC on the left side of the window, then right-click Show more options.  From the pop-up window, select Map network drive... 

3. In the Map Network Drive window, select a drive letter from the drop down list adjacent to Drive

Note: The selected letter is a personal choice and will not impact the ability to map a shared folder.

4. Type the name of the location of the folder to be mapped

  • For example \\fitfiles.fit.edu\mysharedfolder

5. Check the check box for "Connect using different credentials"

6. Click Finish button in the Map Network Drive window

7. When a dialog box appears, enter your username as FLTECH\Tracks username and your Tracks account password in the password field

8. You can now see the mapped network drive on the Computer window.

 

 Mac OS X 10.7 or later

1. From the Apple Menu, select the Go menu

2. Select Connect to Server

3. For example: Type smb://fitfiles.fit.edu/mysharedfolder in the server address box, click the  + to add the server to the list

4. Click Connect

5. Enter your Tracks username (you can try FLTECH\Tracks username, if you find you are having trouble connecting) and your Tracks account password when prompted

6. The mapped drive will now be available on your desktop and the finder
